Sad End Of KBu Security Staff

A 55-year-old security officer at the Accident Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Amadu Seidu, met his untimely death on Wednesday a blow struck by a man who had taken a patient there on Monday. The blow from George Adjageli, a footballer, following a misunderstanding between the two, was said to have floored Seidu alias Fulani, rendering him unconscious. Blood dripped from his nostrils, ear, and penis. Seidu was said to have been rushed by medical personnel to the Emergency Ward of the hospital from where he was referred to the Surgical Ward but he died at dawn on Wednesday. Adjageli and a colleague, Kakra Johnson, who was said to have instigated him to commit the act, are currently in the custody of the Korle-Bu police assisting investigations. Superintendent Alex Tawiah Yartey, Accra South-West Divisional Police Commander who confirmed the incident to the Times on Thursday June 24, said preliminary investigations by the police indicated that Seidu might have died as a result of the blow. However, he said, the police were awaiting the result of a post-mortem examination on the deceased after which a docket on the case would be forwarded to the Attorney Generals Department for advice. Supt. Yartey said the suspects were among a group of persons from Osu who had had taken to the Korle-Bu Accident Centre, a patient whose ear had been chopped off at a funeral. At the centre, the group, numbering 10, who appeared drunk, attempted to force their way to the Emergency Ward to have their patient attended to but the security man informed them that they had to go through the laid procedures like all other patients before they could see the doctor. He said some members of the group then demanded that the security man vacate his seat for the patient to sit down and wait but he Fulani disagreed insisting that he was at post. A heated argument between Adjageli and Seidu ensued prompting some medical personnel to intervene to calm tempers. Moments later, however, Adjageli, allegedly instigated by Johnson, rushed on Seidu and punched him in the face, sending him reeling to the ground. Supt. Yartey said initially, five persons were arrested by the police but three Frank Tetteh, Festus Torgbor and Joseph Konadu were granted bail. The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mustapha Salifu, told the Times that fear had gripped the staff of the hospital following the assault and the death of the security officer. He said there was also suspicion and gossip following the granting of bail to the other suspects.
