Police, Soldiers Warned

The Tema Regional Police Command has cautioned police and military personnel aiding and abetting land guards to shun the act.

Most of the sophisticated weapons some of these land guards use for their operations, the Tema Regional Police Commander observed, could not be easily acquired without the aid of some hands in the security services.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, Tema Regional Police Commander, sounded the warning at the Command's 2014 celebration of West African Security Services Association (WASSA).

She said, "Police personnel and other sister security agencies who aid these land guards or who are land guards themselves should desist from the unlawful act or they have themselves to blame."

DCOP Vib-Sanziri indicated that the activities of land guards, particularly in areas within the Ashaiman, Dodowa and Prampram districts, are quite worrying, adding that some of these criminals are heavily armed, thus causing harm to lives and valuable properties.

She advised parties in land-related matters to resort to the law courts.

The Tema Regional Police boss promised that her outfit would continue to work hard to ensure that the region continues to record a zero highway robbery incidence and reduce other criminal activities to the barest minimum.

She said the command would achieve this by upping its random swoops and arrests, increased and sustained day-and-night patrols, the introduction of random regular and irregular day-and-night snap checks and intensified accessibility to public visibility.

She said, "The police, with support from its sister security agencies, will double up its performance to make the Tema Police Region a safer place for all."

DCOP Vib-Sanziri paid tribute to seven personnel who lost their lives last year.
