We Are Closely Monitoring MMDCEs Local Govt Ministry

Local Government Minister, Collins Dauda has said his outfit is closely monitoring activities of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chiefs Executives(MMDCEs) across the country.

The Local Government Ministry asked the various MMDCEs to run the assemblies and dissolved the various MMDAs after the Supreme Court barred the EC from conducting the District Assembly elections.

Some have called on government to rescind its decision since it is unconstitutional while others have threatened to sue government for the new directive.

However speaking on the floor of Parliament, Collins Dauda said the Ministry will devise measures that will ensure that the MMCEs “stick to their administrative and executive” functions.

This, according to him, will “avoid excess and abuse” which is a concern to most members of the House.

“As we try to avoid abuse of excesses and abuse of these Chief Executives, it is important that we go back to the arrangement of the process that will bring back the Assembly members and that is to have the elections held as quickly as possible ”

The MMDCEs were also asked not to take key decision that will not affect the various assemblies they represent.
