Filth Takes Over Accra Markets After Heavy Downpour

Accra’s preparedness for the major raining season was brought to test today by the early morning heavy downpour.

Ghana has been battling the outbreak of cholera since last year and this is set to be worse with the onset of the rains.

The insanitary condition at major market centres in the capital has been identified as a threat to safety of food items sold.

We are focusing our lens on three of the major markets; that is the Kaneshie, Mallam Atta and Adabraka markets where our reporters have been monitoring the situation since morning.

The situation at the Kaneshie Market was very terrible as the rains swept the filth to where the traders had their wares, a situation which poses health risks to traders and consumers in general,

At the Mallam Atta market in Accra, the situation was no different as mud had virtually taken over the entire market space, making it difficult for traders and consumers to go about  their businesses smoothly.
