PNC Issues Guidelines For Internal Elections

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has adopted a number of guidelines to regulate the conduct of its internal  elections set to commence from next month. The schedule for the elections  are polling station conference  — April 30, 2015, constituency conferences- May 30, 2015;  regional conferences — June 30 2015 , National Congress — August 14 – 16, 2015.

According to the guidelines, aspirants for the constituency elections should be paid-up members and should have paid their membership dues for the past three years.

Aspirants for the position of   constituency chairman, according to the guidelines, would have to pay a filing fee of GH¢2,000 in addition to GH¢20  nomination fee while female contestants would not pay filing fees in all the categories.

Aspirants for vice  chairmanship  and secretary positions are supposed to pay GH¢100 non-refundable filing  fee.   

 All other aspirants, according to the guidelines which were issued after the Standing Committee Meeting in Accra last Thursday, would have to pay a flat rate non-refundable filing fee of GH¢50 while females shall pay no filing fees.

The General Secretary of the  PNC,  Mr Bernard Mornah,  told  the Daily Graphic that  at the regional level,  aspirants contesting the regional chairmanship would  pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢300 in addition to GH¢50 as nomination fee.

Aspirants for regional vice chairman and regional secretary  positions  shall pay GH¢200 non-refundable filing  fee  while their female counterparts pay no filing fee.

All other aspirants, Mr Mornah said,  would pay  a non-refundable filing fee of one GH¢100 while females at the regional level pay no filing fees.

At the national delegates congress scheduled to take place in Wa in the Upper Region, Mr Mornah said male aspirants  for the National chairman and leader of  the party would  pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢5,000 in addition to GH¢2,000 nominations fee while female aspirants pay no filing fee.

He said those contesting the national vice chairman position shall pay GH¢2,000 non-refundable filing fee, general secretary  aspirants   pay a non-refundable fees  of GH¢3,000 while all other aspirants  pay a non-refundable fee of GH¢1,000. 

Some of the positions being contested for at the national level include national chairman, vice chairman, general secretary, national treasurer, national organiser, national women organiser , national youth organiser and communication secretary.

The presidential candidates,  according to Mr Mornah, would  pay GH¢10,000 in  addition to GH¢500 nomination feeS while the female aspirants pay no filing fees. 

All other aspirants, according to the guidelines,  shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢1000  while females  shall pay no filing fee. 

Mr Mornah advised all aspirants  to  use  decent language during their campaign,  stressing that no  candidate or assigned agents should deface or peel off posters or any other campaign paraphernalia of any other candidate.
