Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Betty Mould Iddrisu says she cannot prosecute the resigned Youth and Sports Minister on the basis of allegations of misappropriation and malfeasance brought against him by the Chief Accountant of the Youth and Sports Ministry, Mr. Adim Odoom. Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu says the report of the Bureau of National investigations, BNI, submitted to the President, John Mills, after investigations into the allegations, leaves her nothing to prosecute resigned Mubarak Muntaka on counts of corruption. Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu, a couple of weeks ago, at a lecture to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the June 4 uprising, said the principles of the June 4 revolution championed by her party�s founder and former president Jerry Rawlings still reign supreme.She said the ideals of accountability and probity which underpinned the 1979 revolt were still relevant, and promised to prosecute even her colleague ministers who will go contrary to the law. She told Citi FM that after perusing the BNI�s report, she did not see how she could take Hon. Muntaka to court and that ��there is nothing within that report that will support a criminal charge�. On the controversial issue of whether the Chief Accountant of the ministry who let the cat out, was a whistle blower, Madam Betty-Mould categorically stated that Mr. Odoom�s character did not fit that of a whistle blower. She explained to Citi FM that, ��whistle blowing is when somebody comes on condition of anonymity�I don�t think the chap involved wanted to protect his identity, if he did there are mechanisms he should have followed.� She said the fact that Mr. Odoom signed his name after putting together the allegations defeated claims that he was �blowing a whistle�. Hon. Muntaka, also MP for Asawase, was alleged to have engaged in a massive scandal of spending the sector�s money employing fraudulent documents. He was also alleged to have been paid monies for unofficial expenses amounting to about GH�15,000 including buying GH�12,000 worth of diapers and mouth gurgle for his baby, as well as demanding GH�10,000 as consultation fee for a juju man to boost the fortunes of the Black Stars team. Hon. Muntaka was also reported to have traveled with his girlfriend to Ivory Coast to watch the Black Stars play Benin and ended up spending time in a hotel with her at the expense of the Sports ministry. President Mills upon receipt of the allegations ordered National Security to conduct investigations into the veracity of the claims made against Hon Muntaka. After investigations, report submitted to the President by the BNI cleared the Minister and ruled out misappropriation as a lot of the allegations could not be substantiated with official documentation. Hon. Muntaka subsequently resigned from government as Youth and Sports Minister. His resignation sparked outrage amongst his supporters in the Asawase Constituency who went on rampage and vandalized the regional office of the party in Kumasi.
