NPP Communicator, Nana Boakye is optimistic the election of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) as Head of the Nigerian State will have a direct reflection on Ghana's elections, come 2016.

According to Nana Boakye, popularly called Nana B, the election of General Buhari sends fears down the veins of members of the ruling National Democratic Congress because the aftermath is a disastrous defeat for President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Nana B believes Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win the 2016 general elections hands down due to the wind of change that has begun blowing at Nigeria.

To him, whatever happens in the Nigerian elections may have a direct consequence on the outcome of Ghana's 2016 Presidential elections.

Already General Buhari is reportedly galloping ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan in the provisional results of the Nigerian Presidential elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, last night indicated that of the 21 States declared; Buhari has won the polls in 13 States while Goodluck Jonathan has eight States to his credit.

With respect to the Nigerian Presidential elections, the NPP Communicator told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that "“Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo will be President. Ghanaians are looking out for competence…I am telling you or you think Ghanaians are interested in your incompetence."

In his conviction, the NDC is sore afraid. "You know Buhari has also stood for two or three times. Nana Addo has also contested for three times…the Nigerian elections…the NDC were waiting for Jonathan to win, so they could use it for the campaign.”

However, also addressing the issue, the NDC Deputy Communications Director Fred Agbenyo noted that the Ghanaian electorate would not be looking out for 70-year olds who have "finished their work and waiting for the day the Lord will call them into His bosom" to lead the nation.

To Fred Agbenyo, the nation needs people who are active and strong.

“So, even for the sake of argument, if Nigerians elect somebody who is beyond 70 years to lead them; it doesn’t change my position because as far as I’m concerned, we can’t use governance or leadership of a country to make a retirement package…My point is that there are several successful nations in the world but take a critical look at their leaders, they’re not people who have finished their work and waiting for the day the Lord will call them into His bosom. They’re active people. They’re strong and still working.

He therefore urged his party to prepare and “work hard. We do everything possible to help Ghana. And whether they like it or not, we will clinch victory come 2016.”
