The ruling government, National Democratic Congress (NDC), a couple of weeks ago, sneered at some of the personalities who have declared their intention to contest for Parliamentary seats on the ticket of the main opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The decision by Mr. George Andah, a former executive of OccupyGhana, a pressure group and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, another member of the Group and former host of Joy FM’s "Super Morning Show", together with a couple of other media persons to contest the 2016 parliamentary primaries on the ticket of the opposition NPP, ruffled feathers of some, especially in the NDC.
The ruling party argues it is not a coincidence that all the top members of the group are gravitating towards a certain political party.
Indeed, National Organiser of the ruling NDC, Kofi Adams in an interview with JoyFM last week, sought to find out the main motive behind the group’s activities. He also questioned the exact period members of the group made public their intentions to engage in partisan politics.
He was categorical that Andah’s decision and that of some members of the pressure group had “exposed them” as an offshoot of the opposition NPP, adding that the NDC, from onset, identified the pressure group as a wing of the NPP covering itself as a non-partisan group while “working towards getting Nana Akufo-Addo and NPP elected but that would not work”.
"They (Occupy Ghana) are covering up for what they are not...the Occupy Ghana agenda is an NPP agenda, will continue to be that…they should just admit they are a branch of the NPP," Kofi Adams is quoted to have said.
Giving his take on the issue during a panel discussion on Wednesday's edition of PEACEFM's ‘Kokrokoo’, the Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr described those who are criticizing George Andah and the rest as ‘hypocrites’.
He pointed out that if the ruling party saw nothing wrong in allowing Ms Akua Sena Dansua, a former Features Editor of the Ghanaian Times newspaper and one-time Sports and Tourism Minister but now Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany to contest the North Dayi seat on the ticket of the NDC, and also appoint Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Minister for Education, then they (NDC) do not have the right to criticize or condemn George Andah and Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah's decision.
“Those accusing Andah and the rest are the ones being hypocrites, what they are doing is needless and it is driven by mischief. They should forget and rather go on the field and know how to match them when they win rather than engaging in this media war of attrition,” he said.
