Man Renders Wife, Children Homeless

A  woman and her five children are living at the  mercy of the weather at Kasoa in the Central Region  after her husband hired thugs to take off the roofing of their  house  in a bid to eject them.

Mr Kofi Amegayibor, who is physically-challenged and an alcoholic beverage seller, allegedly contracted thugs who ripped off the roofing of their house after the woman refused to pack out from their matrimonial home as directed by the man.

Yaa Dansowa, who is the third  of Amegayibor’s five wives, told The Mirror in an interview that they had been married for about 14 years with five children.

She gave the names and ages of their children as Mary and Martha, 12; Joseph, 9; Afi, 7 and Ishmael, 4.

The situation, she said, had led to the children dropping out of school.

According to Madam Dansowa who hails from the Volta Region, she came to Accra with her husband to seek greener pastures.

She said her husband stopped her from selling at his alcoholic beverage shop when he married a fourth wife.

She stated that  times were difficult for her  and she and her children sometimes slept on empty stomachs.

Her story
Narrating her ordeal, she said she was  at home one day when the Kasoa Police came there to eject her and the children from their house.

She said the police were acting on a report by her husband that he was the landlord and she was a tenant who had refused to move out of his house.

‘’I then explained to them that he was lying and that I was his wife and not a tenant, before they understood me.”

She said her husband decided to sack her and her children from their house after he married a fourth wife.

She refused to move out and that had become a tug of war between them. To ensure that she and her children moved out, her husband hired people to remove the roofing from their room as well as his so that they would not get anywhere to lay their heads.

Social Welfare
Madam Dansowa then reported the case to  the Kasoa Social Welfare and the Kasoa Divisional Chief but her husband refused to respond to their calls.

The Kasoa Police also gave her a letter to be given to her husband to report at the police station but he refused to honour their invitation too.

Kofi Amegayibor has also refused an invitation by the Ewe Divisional Chief at Kasoa, Torgbui Gada.

According to the Kasoa Divisional Commander, Supt Samuel Punobyin, the issue was still being investigated.
