Cape Coast Records Three Easter Accident Deaths; 16 Injuries

The Central Region recorded eight cases of road traffic accidents that left three persons dead and 16 others with various degrees of injuries during the Easter period.

Chief Superintendent Felix Kwasi Cosmos, the Regional MTTU Commander, who told the Ghana News Agency, stated that the Cape Coast Metro recorded four accidents with Assin Fosu, Winneba, Kasoa and Elmina recording a case each.

Superintendent Cosmos said in all 14 vehicles were involved, five of which were commercial with eight being private, and the other, a motor bike.

He said the figure was lower than last year’s and attributed it to the Police Education programme and the enforcement of the Road Traffic Regulation Act and the cooperation of the public.

The Police Administration and the Ghana Road Safety Commission organised a joint operation to educate drivers and passengers on the need to ensure an accident-free Easter.

He, however, expressed worry over the loss of lives through motor accidents, saying that the Police would not relent but intensify operations.

"We are not going to limit our education and sensitization to only occasions ...if we are not careful, we will be taken by events so we would sustain it," he stated.
