La Pleasure Beach Resort IMC Boss Arrested

The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, (IMC) of the La Pleasure Beach Resort in Accra has been arrested by the police for allegedly using fake entertainment coupons in contravention of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act 546 of 1998.

The suspect, Stanley Anyetei Nunoo, is also alleged to have refused to open an account for the La Development Fund into which monies should be deposited for the development of the La community as ordered by the Accra High Court on December 13, 2013.

He is assisting the La District Police Command in their investigations.

In the order, which followed a notice for interlocutory injunction filed by the La Dade Kotopon Youth Association against the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, and 19 others, a three-member interim committee  was established to manage the beach resort.

The committee is made up of a representative each of the La Traditional Council, the Ghana Tourist Authority and the La Dade Kotopon Youth Association.

The committee, under the chairmanship of Anyetei Nunoo, was as a matter of urgency to set up the La Development Fund under a Memorandum of Understanding into which a percentage of the proceeds from the resort was to be paid for the development of the community.

The court, presided over by Mr Justice Anthony Abada, also ordered the committee to obtain value books (receipts) from the Ghana Revenue Authority .

However, in contravention of the VAT Law, Anyetei Nunoo is reported to have printed parallel entertainment coupons meant for entry into the resort without paying the requisite tax to the government.

When contacted, the La District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Wilson Kudze, confirmed the arrest and said investigations were ongoing.

He, however, said it was too early to divulge further information on the case.
