Medical Student Tells Ordeal

The lady who jumped from the second floor of a hostel at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, yesterday told an Accra circuit court how she narrowly escaped being raped by a robber.

Led in evidence in-chief by Inspector Martin Acheampong, the victim (name withheld) said she was attacked by Emmanuel Aryee aka Kahn, at about 6:25 pm on January 29, 2015 when she was at her hostel cooking waakye and stew.

She said while doing the cooking, she used the bathroom for less than three minutes but on her return, she saw a man holding a black polythene bag standing about 20 metres away.

According to the student, when she entered her room, Kahn also followed her inside, adding that when she got up to confront the accused, he pulled a kitchen knife from the black polythene bag, warning her not to make any noise else “he will hurt me.”

The final year medical student, who said she is a resident of La, a suburb of Accra, further told the court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri, that she obliged and the accused closed the door behind him and said he (Kahn) was a Christian and that he needed GH¢1,500 to support his sister who he claimed had gained admission at a polytechnic.

The victim said after telling Kahn that she did not have the money, pleaded with him to allow her go out and solicit for funds but he refused.

She said, “He gave the knife to me and asked me to lay on my back so that he would lie on top of me.”

The student further stated, “I asked to be allowed to say a prayer and pleaded that he joined me by holding hands.”

She said in the process, she freed herself from the grip of Kahn and jumped from the balcony, sustained injury and raised an alarm, leading to the arrest of Kahn.

The trial judge accordingly adjourned the case to Wednesday, April 15, 2015 for the evidence            in-chief to continue.

Kahn is standing trial for attempting to rape the final year medical student after she failed to give him GH¢1,500.

The accused person is alleged to have also robbed the victim of her Toshiba laptop and Samsung mobile phone.
