I Will Not Tolerate Teacher Absenteeism In Techiman � Education Director

The Education Director of the Techiman Municipality, Very Rev. Philip Obeng Adjei has stated emphatically that he would not tolerate teacher absenteeism in his domain.

He says Teacher absenteeism is a big worry to education as a whole in the country and added that Ghana recorded the highest rate of Teacher absenteeism in the ECOWAS Sub-region of which the Techiman Municipality is no exception.

The President of the republic of Ghana,His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in a sod-cutting ceremony for the building of the first 50 Community-Based Senior High Schools declared a zero (0) tolerance for absenteeism.

Very Rev. Philip Adjei said the aim of government is to reduce to zero (0) the current rate of 27% teacher absenteeism in the country.

The Education Director said this when addressing the 60th Anniversary Celebration of Ahmadiyya Basic Schools in Techiman at the school’s premises.

He was speaking on the theme Sixty Years of Academic Excellence through Religious and Secular Education – The role of T. I Ahmadiyya Schools.

He cautioned Teachers in the region who engage in the act of Examination malpractices to stop or else they will end up being sanctioned.

He commented also on the high rate of teenage pregnancy in Techiman and its environs adding that about sixty two (62) school children have been inpregnated within a period of one year.

He urged the Ahmadiyya mission, as they celebrate their 60th anniversary to collaborate effectively with Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders in education to reduce, if not eliminate this canker from the society.
