BOST Moves Into Controversial $1M Office

The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has finally moved into its controversial one million dollar office apartment (DEMMCO House) at Dzorwulu in Accra.

The decision by the management of BOST to move into the office generated controversy in the middle of last year due to the high cost involved.

The new BOST premises is a one-floor building, which costs 43, 400 dollars a month compared to their previous spacious office which costs only 13000 dollars a month. The company moved into the building two weeks ago according to our sources.

BOST, which is grappling with financial difficulties is renting the DEMMCO House for 24 months and thus paying a whopping 1,042,560 million dollars or GHC 4,128,000 for the whole two years. An invoice from Frontiers Developers Limited, owners of the facility confirms the huge payment.

The date on the invoice is May 7, 2014, indicating that payment was made upfront to enable the company (Developers) embark on renovation of the building.

Our sources explained to atinkaonline.com that, the money being used to pay for the new rent could have been used to build BOST’s own office complex adding that the DEMMCO used nine months to complete the building. “For the nine months that we waited, we could have used those nine months to build our own office.

“The company had already secured land under previous administration to build their own head office but this Managing Director has other ideas," the source said.

When this reporter contacted the Communication Director of BOST, Nat Salifu Acheampong, he confirmed that BOST had moved into its new office but was not willing to comment any further.

Meanwhile, the Senior Staff Union of BOST are not happy with how the company under the leadership of Mr Kingley Kwame Awuah Darko is handling affairs of employees and other matters.

In a strongly worded petition dated 20th March, 2015 and addressed to the Board of the company, the senior staff union expressed concern about what they perceive as violations of the labour law as well as needless victimization of staff of the company.

The workers cited an instance where the Head of Organisational Health Security and Safety (OHSSE) has been suspended for well over four months for an alleged misconduct when no committee was set up to investigate the allegations which led to his suspension.

Management of the company has promised to react to the concerns of the senior staff union by close of Monday.

Meanwhile atinkaonline has in its possession certain vital documents that expose acts of malfeasance and unprofessionalism within BOST and will soon make them public in the coming weeks.
