Prez Mahamas Appointments Is Purposely For Elections - Prof. Mike Ocquaye

Former 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Ghana, Professor Mike Ocquaye has bemoaned the kind of persons President John Dramani Mahama is appointing to help in the administrative business of the country.

According to the former MP for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, there is every indication that recent appointments of President Mahama have 2016 elections intent as he [Mahama] is strategically putting certain people at certain places to canvass for more votes in the upcoming elections.

Professor Mike Ocquaye’s worry is borne out of the stir the Deputy Minister of Natural Resource-Designate, Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh caused on Tuesday when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee to be vetted.

During his vetting, one of the issues which caught controversy was his work experience as the nominee had indicated in his Curriculum Vitae (CV) that his work experience is serving as a dining hall prefect while at the senior secondary school.

Hon. Akandoh also added under work experience category that he also gained work experience as an executive of the Student Representative Council (SRC).

But the former Ambassador to India said on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show that President Mahama is using these people for election purpose as they are rather thinking of the 2016 elections than the interest of the country.

“They are using these people for elections purpose….people should have experience in their field of work; the person has no interest in that area and I think the President should do the honorable thing by cancelling his appointment. This is why we are suffering and not developing because it is clear the person is not ready for the appointment,” he bemoaned.

He further pleaded with the President to do well by calling into his administration, people who have the experience and the knowledge to manage and run the offices assigned to them and not people who are there to experiment because “Ghana is not experimental block”.

He however advised that giving gifts to people because of election and not the benefit of Ghana must stop, describing the incident at Parliament’s Appointments Committee as “disgraceful” for the country.

He again implored President Mahama to choose people who can make changes in the country’s well being and not those can help him [Mahama] win votes; adding that “God should have mercy on Ghana”.
