Bad leadership and cronyism have encouraged unprecedented levels of ineptitude, corruption, and thievery in Ghana. It has become a common phrase and a point of international derision to label Ghana as the once shining light now darkened in our own “Dumsor” style. A state now synonymous with a failure to manage basic lighting and yet to see the end of perennial water shortages.

In our quest to support better governance and a corruption-free country, OccupyGhana wishes to recognise efforts of citizens engaged in the fight for good governance and fully endorse well-meaning citizens of the land who share similar views to weed out acts of corruption and irresponsible governance.

We note with approval, the singular efforts of the former Attorney-General, Mr. Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu (a.k.a. Citizen Vigilante) in his fight against corruption. Mr. Amidu has been unrelenting in his quest to ensure that those who seek to undermine the collective good of the society are brought to justice. Since leaving office, his anti-corruption crusade has seen him go beyond merely exposing corruption scandals to ensure that lost money is retrieved for the state.

A case in point, which demonstrates Mr. Amidu's commitment to the fight against corruption, is the action which he filed in his own capacity, in the Supreme Court against Mr. Alfred Woyome in respect of an amount of over 51 million Ghana Cedis.

OccupyGhana calls on all Ghanaians to emulate the public-interest-driven actions of Mr. Amidu and admonishes individuals who are attacking the personality of Martin Amidu and threatening him. It is our firm belief that if all Citizens and Civil Society Organisations were to show more interest in and commitment to public interest litigation, Ghana would become a place we would indeed be proud to call home.

We also commend Mr. Richard Nyamah who successfully obtained a court order compelling the Government of Ghana to make statutory payments that it had failed, refused to and neglected to make.

OccupyGhana further lauds the efforts of Mr. Benjamin Eyi Mensah who successfully obtained a court order that stopped the Electoral Commission from organising District Assembly elections in the absence of a valid Constitutional Instrument.

As we count down to commemorate the 1st anniversary of OccupyFlagStaffHouse, we entreat all Ghanaians, irrespective of political affiliation, gender, religion, ethnicity and social status, to join hands with and support people who in diverse ways, including going out on the streets, and being mindful of the duties of citizens imposed on us by Article 41 of the Constitution, seek to manifest their rightful anger and displeasure at injustice, corruption and blatant wrongdoing that seek to render impotent, the “great and strong” nation we all sing about in our national anthem.

Let us hold firmly to our national anthem’s call to be “bold to defend forever, the cause of freedom and of right”.
Let us speak up against the many evils that bedevil our nation.

Let us expose corruption wherever it hides and fight it with all the force that we can muster.

Let us remind our leaders that the power belongs to "We the People of Ghana", that "all powers of Government spring from the Sovereign Will of the People, and that we elect governments to serve us and not for them to enrich themselves and their families and friends through stealing and acts of corruption.

Fellow Ghanaians, together WE CAN and WE WILL build a better Ghana for ourselves and generations unborn.

Our elected leaders should not take us for granted. Thank you to all citizens who support our efforts and encourage us to do more as we count down to our first anniversary OccupyFlagStaffHouse on 1st July.
