Ridge Hospital Nurses Call Off Strike

Nurses at Ridge Regional Hospital in Accra, have called off their strike over unpaid salaries for March, after a closed door meeting with the National Executives of Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) on Wednesday.

Mr Kwaku Asante Krobea, President of GRNA told the GNA after the meeting that all nurses of the hospital are to return to their duty posts as agreed, and to channel their concerns and financial challenges through their unit heads.

He said the GRNA has also resolved to take care of individual nurses with financial difficulties as a result of the salary delay over the period, without asking for any refund.

The nurses numbering 556, on Tuesday embarked on a strike over the delay in the payment of their salaries due to some technical challenges created by a new payroll system introduced by the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD).

Mr Asante Krobea also said CAGD has given the assurance that the affected nurses would receive their unpaid salaries together with that of April at the end of the month.

This, he said, was due to the fact that all the relevant data on the affected nurses have been captured by the CAGD.

Mr Asante Krobea said the meeting concluded that despite the unfortunate situation, it would be unfair for them to punish innocent citizens who have no hand in their predicament.
