Member of Parliament for Tema East Constitutncy, Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to with immediate effect pay a visit to the Tema Oil Refinery [TOR].

Describing the place as a “Ghost”, Titus believes the president must investigate some rots and debts believed to be collapsing the refinery.

Contrary to assertions by government that the Tema Oil Refinery’s (TOR) debts have been paid out of levies instituted in 2003 to clear the refinery of all its debts, investigations indicate that the refinery has over Ghc400 million outstanding debt sitting in its books.

The amount is made up of loans for the construction of tanks and an outstanding amount owed GCB Bank, some trade suppliers, the Volta River Authority, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The debts, which are in dollars, have also increased as a result of foreign exchange losses due to the depreciation of the cedi and interests that have accrued on the amount over the years.

TOR is gradually collapsing due to its whooping amount of debts.

However, Titus is of a view that, President Mahama must restructure the place as well as meet with the workers to hear their plight.

“I am worried that the president's recent visit to Tema, he did not make time to visit the refinery. I am very sorry but he [President Mahama] should make time and visit the place and solve the problem there. TOR cannot collapse,” he said on Adom FM.
