Great People Attract Great People

The visit of President Obama to Jamaica on 10th April, 2015 got me thinking and also encouraged.

Thinking, because of the contrasting events that played out when I compared his past visit (Prez Obama) to Ghana and his recent to Jamaica. When he visited Ghana, ministers literally embarrassed Ghana and themselves by jumping over each other to take a photo with him.

At a point ministers who were privy to have met the US president courtesy the President of Ghana, Prof. Atta-Mills suddenly found the professional photographers at the presidency incompetent and took over the cameras.

Unlike our ministers, Mr. Obama after paying glowing tribute to Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for their achievement at what they do could not help but ask Bolt for a photo opportunity.

As if that was not enough, the man touted as the most powerful man in the world could not resist striking the lightning bolt pose for the cameras.

I was however, encouraged because it emboldened me to do things that will attract me to great people in my quite corner.

Derreck Kayongo, went to Atlanta from Africa with nothing but through his effort at making recycled soaps available to refugee camps in Africa he became a global sensation. Thanks to him the global soap project was adopted by the United Nation. He has been voted CNN hero of change and has since wined and dined with some of the most powerful people in the world.

We can achieve more if we put our heart and mind in what we do.
