Rainstorm Renders Bimbilla Residents Homeless

More than 1,000 residents in communities in  around Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region have been rendered homeless following a rainstorm that hit the area last Sunday.

The storm also ripped the roofs from more than 200 houses, including four classroom blocks in Machoni, Gulyasi, Manja and Gunguni Junior High Schools (JHSs). Also destroyed were foodstuffs and electrical appliances such as refrigerators and television sets.

Victims
The victims of the rainstorm, who are yet to receive any support to ameliorate their plight, are currently living with friends and relatives in the area.

They have, therefore, appealed to the government and other philanthropic organisations to come to their aid.

Fuseini Ponado, a victim, said, “For now, all our properties are gone and we are left with nothing to fend for ourselves. We appeal to good samaritans to help assuage our plight.”

When the Daily Graphic contacted officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the region, they indicated that they were yet to receive relief items from their headquarters in Accra for  distribution to the victims who were now reeling from the effects of the disaster.

Constraints
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanumba North, Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass, said the assembly was constrained, given the quantum of resources spent on maintaining peace in the area. Bimbilla has been a flashpoint in the region for sometime now after the murder of the late Overlord of the area, Bimbilla-Naa, Naa Andani Dasana, last year. As a result, the district has been under a curfew for some time.

Appeal
Alhaji Abass, therefore, added his voice to the appeals by the victims for support since the assembly was facing financial constraints.
