A young man said to be the brain behind the posting of nude pictures of the alleged rape of a female radio presenter on social media has been put before the Accra Magistrate Court.

The plea of the suspect, Nelson Williams, was not taken. He was remanded into police custody to reappear before the court on April 30, 2015. 

That was after the police had asked the court to remand the suspect to give them more time to conduct investigations into the case.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the court session, the Accra Regional Police Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Paul Kontonmah, said the police were yet to interrogate the 26-year-old radio presenter, Adelaide Onyinyechie Ayoka, popularly known as Princess Ada, who is at the centre of the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault.

“Until now the woman at the centre of the incident has not given her side of the story to the police. Because of her current condition the police have to wait until she is in a better condition to talk, and tell the police what actually happened,“ he said.

Mr Kontonmah said it was only the radio presenter who could “actually tell if she was abducted and raped or not”.

Background 

Last Monday, nude pictures of Princess Ada, and some of her dreadlocks being cut by a man while two others held her firmly to the ground, were widely circulated on social media.

Messages accompanying the pictures claimed she had been abducted by some men and raped. 

While some social media enthusiasts, especially, facebook account holders who heard her story rained curses on the alleged perpetrators, others prayed that she was released or found by the police.

A day later, Princess Ada was found in a traumatised state in Tarkoradi and transfered to the Police Hospital in Accra.

Though it was speculated that she had been abducted in Takoradi in the Western Region where she worked as a presenter for YFM, the police have confirmed that the pictures were shot in a hotel room in Accra.

Arrest

On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, Williams, one out of four suspects linked to the alleged abduction and rape, was arrested in a hotel at Abossey Okai in Accra.

The three other suspects, including a woman, are currently on the run.

Princess Ada is currently on admission at the Police Hospital under the watchful eyes of the police.

With two armed policemen beside her bed, she is not permitted free movement without police escort.
