Jaman NDC Spits Fire

Tension is mounting among supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Jaman North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, following the appointment of an NPP man as the Presiding Member (PM) of the district assembly. A section of the party followers, calling themselves the Concerned Jaman North NDC Youth Association, have questioned the rationality of the power-sharing deal supposedly brokered at the assembly which led to the election of an NPP stalwart, Twene Adu Asare, as the PM. The group claimed that the so-called power-sharing agreement led to the over-whelming endorsement of the nomination of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hajia Amina Amadu, during the recently held election to confirm her nomination. However, the spokesperson for the group, Kojo Botsio, told Daily Guide that the deal is not in the best interest of the ranks and file of the ruling party in the constituency. According to him, leadership of the association has gathered enough information that suggested that the PM, who controls and leads the assemblys sittings, would sabotage the development agenda of the government in order to make the NDC administration unpopular among the people so as to wrestle the seat for the NPP. The groups spokesperson maintained that since the NDC and the NPP are entirely divided on ideologies, and are always fighting each other to secure power, the power-sharing deal will therefore not help the ruling party to maintain power in the area in the next general elections. The concerned NDC youth in the area have therefore called for a fresh election at the assembly to elect a new Presiding Member, who they stated should be a sympathizer of the governing party, in order to accelerate the districts development. They group however warned that if nothing is done about the situation, it could have serious repercussions on the NDC bid to win election in the area since most of its foot soldiers are disillusioned. According to Mr. Botsio, the deal has rather elated members of the opposition NPP, simply because they have their strong man at the assembly to push their agenda through. However, the DCE for the area, Hajia Amina Amadu, disagreed with the assertion of her party fanatics. She told Daily Guide that members of the assembly have united as one family despite their political differences to fight against a common enemy which is poverty. She stated that the political background of the Presiding Member has not in any way hampered or impeded the work of the assembly. Hajia Amina therefore called on the group and all other persons in the district to avoid acts and pronouncements that could bring divisions among members of the assembly, saying, I want cordiality because the most important thing is the development of the district.
