Xenophobia: Ghana Dispatches National Security Officials To South Africa

The Government of Ghana has dispatched four officials of the National Security Council to South Africa to ascertain whether Ghanaians are safe in that country, following the outbreak of xenophobic attacks against African foreigners, which has left about 10 people dead so far.

This was revealed Tuesday by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Madam Hannah Tetteh, in a joint interview with Accra-based Radio Gold and Citi FM.

“As of yesterday (Monday), I can confirm that four national security officials have left Accra and are currently in South Africa to ascertain the state of security as far as our nationals are concerned,” she said.

Madam Tetteh confirmed in the interview that no Ghanaian has been killed in the violence so far thus far.

According to her the deaths of five Ghanaians in South Africa in the last few days were not related in any way to Xenopbobia.
