A 24-year-old unemployed woman, who posed as a school Health Co-ordinator in the Tema Education Directorate and went round collecting monies from private schools with the pretext of registering them, has been arrested.
Endurance Nana Adjoa Amoah, was arrested by officials of the Education Directorate last week at Community 20 and handed over to the police, when she attempted to collect registration fees from Azures International School.
The Deputy Director, Supervision, Ms. Felicia Okai, told The Ghanaian Times that when Endurance saw the officials at the school, she hid the fake registration forms in her bag and knelt before them, to beg for forgiveness.
She disclosed that for more than two years, the Directorate continued receiving reports from some private basic schools that someone had been going round, to register them.
According to her, the Directorate informed the police about it, but all efforts to arrest the culprit proved futile.
Ms. Okai explained that normally when schools applied for registration, officials of the Directorate went to inspect them and when they were satisfied with the criteria, they advised them to pay their registration fees at the Directorate’s Accounts office.
The Deputy Director said the fake forms retrieved from the impostor, indicated that she charged GH¢155 for pre-schools, GH¢175 for pre-schools to basic 6 and GH¢185 to Junior High School.
“Our investigation showed that she had so far visited Mercy Academy and collected GH¢175, Apex Community School, Golden Angel Montessori, Winkel Star Montessori, New Bethel Montessori and Sylvia’s International School,” she said.
Ms. Okai revealed that the culprit some time ago brought an application to the Directorate to register an NGO, Rans D Media I Pot, to enable her to organise quizzes and choral festivals for schools, but had it not yet to been considered.
The Commander of the Sakumono District Police, Chief Supt. Alex Wowolo, confirmed the story but said during investigations the culprit told the police that she was sent by one Nana Amoah Ntumi, the leader and Zilpa Amoah, to go round to collect the monies from the schools for 20% commission.
He said however, the culprit had so far failed to lead the police to arrest her accomplices.
Chief Supt. Wowolo hinted, Endurance would be put before court after investigations.
