Former President John Agyekum Kufuor arrived back home on Sunday night, after addressing meetings in Paris-France and London-United Kingdom.
In Paris, former President Kufuor addressed a forum by the Progressives for Climate Change, which is a network of European civil society organizations engaged in climate change.
The meeting was opened by French President Laurent Fabius and addressed by Mr. Karl Offmann, former President of Mauritius and Mr. Ricardo Lagos, former President of Chile, among others.
Participants drew up a five-point agenda for consideration at the next climate change summit in December, also to be held in Paris, where legally binding agreements on the impact of climate change will be made by governments from all over the world.
Among its conclusions were that the December Conference should make provision for a systematic and transparent review of mitigation ambition of nations, which would ensure that nations kept to their pledge of maintaining gas emissions to below the Two Degree Celsius mark.
It also called for a price to be set on greenhouse gas emissions by companies that pollute the air and for concrete steps to be taken in activating the 100-billion-dollar fund for developing countries for adhering to greenhouse efficient measures.
Former President Kufuor also addressed an investors’ forum of the Meridiam International, a financial investment consortium where he called for greater public-private-participation in the fight against climate change.
In London, the former President held talks with the new Chief Executive Officer of the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition, Professor Sandy Thomas, on ways of streamlining the work of the panel. Former President Kufuor serves on the Boards of both the Meridiam Group and the Global Panel.
