“It is easy to believe the worst about those you hate and the best about those you love....All I want to say is 'thank you God',” those were the words of Broadcaster Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) in his first radio interview moments after he was discharged by an Accra High Court following the State's decision to discontinue with the prosecution of the rape charge it had earlier preferred against him (KKD).

A seven-member jury was scheduled to be selected to hear the case but that could not see the light of day after state prosecutors filed a nolle prosequi thus leading to him being discharged by the court.

The fashionista, had been charged with raping a 19-year-old girl in a hotel last year. He was arrested at the African Regency Hotel on Saturday, December 27, 2014, following the alleged rape, which reportedly took place in the washroom of the hotel. 

He has consistently denied the allegation on the grounds that the sexual encounter with the victim was ‘consensual’.

Despite his assertions, the Kaneshie Magistrate Court on February 19, 2015, committed him to stand trial at the Fast Track High Court but a Chief State Attorney, Mrs Yvonne Attakorah-Obuobisa announced the state’s decision to discontinue with the case at the High Court’s sitting in Accra on Wednesday.

The A-G however says it "still believes in the case" and has given the assurance that its outfit will "commence the prosecution once the victim and witnesses are ready."

Irrespective of that, the renowned broadcaster expressed profound his gratitude to God after the announcement, and told StarrFM in an interview that whiles "it is easy to believe the worst about those you hate and the best about those you love", in every circumstance, the truth is always immutable.

“...whatever happens let us seek the truth, there is only one truth; there can be many interpretations but only one truth and we cannot change that. All I want to say is 'thank you God',” KKD said.
