Doe Adjaho Refers Cases of Fraud

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Ave-Avenor, Hon. Doe Adjaho has referred alleged cases of fraudulent procurement practices within the Engineering and Planning Departments of the ECG to a joint committee on employment, social welfare and state enterprises for investigation and subsequent report to the House. The first deputy speaker gave the order when he chaired parliamentary proceedings in the absence of the speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Joyce Bamford Addo who is currently out of the country for a national assignment. The referral of the allegation to the committee was made after parliament had approved a resolution to allow the minister of Finance and Economic planning to exempt the payment of taxes and duties on equipment and materials to be imported or purchased locally amounting to 28.7million euros. The equipment and materials are meant for the network expansion and loss reduction project of the ECG. Commenting on the finance committees report on the tax exemption on the equipment and materials to be purchased, the MP for Manhyia , Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh alleged that corruption, mismanagement and manipulation of tenders by the engineering and planning departments of the ECG is affecting quality service delivery by the ECG.
