AUDIO: They Should Not Push UsWe Will Never Pay Angry Students Threaten

The students’ front of the various tertiary institutions seems to be burning over government decision for them to pay utility bills.

The Coalition of Students and Student Leaders at a press conference on Tuesday, strongly opposed this "ill thought through Government policy" and insisted that they will "resist any attempt by Government to force the hands of students to bear the arrears of Utility bills owed by the Universities as a consequence of the failure of government of Ghana to exercise its responsibilities".

According to them, they don't understand why government is trying to make education so expensive; ‘something which only the rich can benefit when they have already promised to make it affordable for everyone’.

Evelyn D. Sappor, Local NUGS President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), spoke to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on PEACE FM morning show 'Kokrokoo' and indicated that government should rather build more hostels in the universities to prevent the students from paying huge sums of money for private accommodations instead of asking them to pay utility bills.

In a very terse manner, Evelyn said "it will be a great burden on us….we won’t pay. They have not brought any formal letter but we are just saying that they should retract that decision other than that they will hear from us…we are students and they will hear from us".
