Parliament Thanks Obama

Members of Parliament today thanked President Barack Obama for his visit to Ghana and reflected upon the messages contained in his address to Parliament. Majority leader, Hon. Alban Bagbin interpreted the US Presidents call for strong institutions in Africa as a call to improve one of Ghanas most powerful institutions, Parliament and its role in allocating resources and managing the purse. Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Akim Abuakwa South, claimed that Ghanas economic success, which Obama commended in his speech, should be attributed to the work done by ex-President Kufuor and the prior ruling party, the NPP. Statements from members of both the NDC and NPP echoed Obamas message that in democracy, the minority is just as important as the majority. Speakers from both sides also praised Ghana for making the visit a success.
