I've Been Miscontrued...I Never Asked To Go Unopposed - Minority Leader Fumes

Member of Parliament for suame constituency who doubles as the Minority Leader in parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu has vehemently denied media reports that he should be allowed to go unopposed by party.

"I have never made such remarks...my explanation when questioned by a journalist has been wrongly misconstrued" he said.

Speaking to the media at a press conference organized by the Suame delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the MP submitted his forms at the constituency party office, he noted that the party believes in healthy competition and that as an MP, he trusts himself to win the delegates vote.

"I was only trying to explain a point to the party leadership to take an introspection at how the party has fared with the absence of some key former members of parliament. As at now we are spending millions of Ghana cedis to organize workshop for some over 60 new MPs to enable them build their capacity as members of parliament, so if we should continue this way it will affect the party, so I was asking the leadership of the party to put it into thinking in the future," the Minority Leader clarified.

Maxwell Ofosu Kwakye, Special Assistant to the Suame MP who addressed the press conference, urged contestants to embark on a clean campaign devoid of insults and victimization.

In a related development, Member of Parliament for Bantama constituency, Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu is also asking contestants to ensure they campaign cleanly without insults. He made the remark when he filed his nomination papers on Thursday at the constituency office.

"The party should be at heart when we go out there to campaign. Let's not wash our dirty linen in public, we are one as party members," he said.
