Two people have been killed in chieftaincy clashes at Portor in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The dead are Mukaila Bawa, 30, and a 16-year-old girl called Humu Abass.
The Bawa and Chawa Chawa families have been involved in a protracted dispute over who has the right to enskin the next Gonja chief in Portor.
The clashes started on Friday night around 7pm when some young men believed to belong to the Bawa family shot into a mosque at Portor during evening prayers, injuring several worshippers, including Chief Ishmael Masawudu Abdulai, 51, Ibrahim Abdulai, and Limann Mahama Abu, 50.
Chief Ishmael and Limann were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Hospital while Ibrahim is on admission at the Kintampo Hospital.
Some family members of Masawudu, who was among the injured in the mosque shooting, carried out a reprisal attack on the Bawa family and killed the two persons.
The Kintampo North Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Owusu Boampong, in an interview, said calm has been restored in the community with the presence of the police and the military, but no arrest has been made.
According to him, residents have fled from the community to safety.
He said they are doing all they could to maintain peace in the community, and called on the residents who have deserted the community to return to continue with their normal activities.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Kintampo North, Mr Michael Baffoe, also visited Portor and called for peace in the community.
