The Tema Regional Police patrol team has arrested two passengers onboard an Accra-bound commercial vehicle from Kpong in the Odumase-Krobo Municipality for carrying on them robbery implements and a substance suspected to be cocaine.
The suspects—Musah Anaba, 25, and a native of Naar, Bolgatanga; and Amos Mensah, 23, from the Central Region—were arrested at about 12.20pm Tuesday, April 28, this year, at the Ashaiman Tulaku roundabout.
A third suspect, according to the Tema Police Regional Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Vib-Sanziri Zaakpa, is presently at large.
DCOP Vib-Sanziri Zaakpa told a section of the press that the suspects were onboard a vehicle with registration number GM 5968-12, and on reaching the Ashaiman Tulaku roundabout, the police patrol team stopped the vehicle to conduct a snap check.
The third suspect immediately got out from the vehicle and fled. The police team could, however, not overtake him.
Musah Anaba and Amos Mensah attempted to escape but the police grabbed them. When they were interrogated about the third suspect, the Tema Regional Police Commander said the two denied knowing him.
Later, when a thorough search was conducted in the suspects’ luggage, a locally manufactured pistol with 25 pieces of 12mm calibre cartridges, one dagger, a cutter, a pair of scissors, two wrappers of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine, one wrapper of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, iPod, GH¢110, $1,100 and two mobile phones were found.
Police said the two suspects are part of an armed robbery syndicate that terrorises residents within the Tema and Accra metropolis.
The suspects have consequently been held in custody at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters and are assisting in investigations.
The command said it will be conducting an identification parade to enable members of the public who might have fallen victims to these criminals to identify them. They will be put before court after investigations.
DCOP Beatrice Vib-Sanziri Zaakpa appealed to members of the public to be very vigilant and volunteer information on criminals and other suspicious persons to the police to enable police act swiftly.
