Eighty-six companies which defaulted in paying the Social Security contributions of their workers amounting to GH¢1,066,600.80, have been dragged to court by the Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Disclosing this to The Ghanaian Times, Mr. Jos Arris Bougre, Sunyani Area Manager of SSNIT, said some of the companies had been arraigned before court, and bench warrants have been issued for others. The rest have been given summons to appear in court.
The mass prosecution by SSNIT, the Area Manager, indi-cated, was to ensure that defaulting companies complied with the National Pensions Act 2008. (SSNIT ACT 766) which enjoined every employer to pay the contributions of its employees.
According to Mr. Bougre, most employers in Sunyani were not complying, hence the action being embarked upon by SSNIT.
He stated that every employee had a responsibility to ensure that their SSNIT contributions were paid regularly, in order not to jeopardise their future.
Meanwhile, Mr. Naja David, owner of Ayum Forest Products at Mim, was on Thursday dragged to the Goaso Circuit Court by SSNIT for owing GH¢556,303.97.
