Stop Making False Calls To Emergency Lines Fire Service

The Central Regional Fire Officer, Mr Robert Fiadzo, has advised the public to desist from making false calls to the emergency numbers of fire stations in the country.

He said such false alarms, if continued, could dissuade fire officers from attending to genuine distress calls from fire victims.

For instance, Mr Fiadzo disclosed that the Central Regional office of the Fire Service received more than 40 false calls on a daily basis which mostly came with insults.

He indicated that the hotlines of the service were mainly for emergency calls from fire victims and not for people to joke with.

Mr Fiadzo gave the advice when he hosted some schoolchildren from the region as part of the fire week celebrations in Cape Coast.

Also, the service exhibited its equipment and took the children through its operational procedures.

Fire preparedness

According to Mr Fiadzo, the service now had the equipment and personnel to deal with any form of fire disaster and road accident extrications.

He said the service had also decided to focus on public education and the sensitisation programmes on how to prevent fire disasters from occurring.

“We are doing these through radio programmes and also encouraging the formation of fire cadets corps at schools” he explained.

Mr Fiadzo said it was the vision of the service to help prevent fires from occurring rather than allowing it to destroy properties and lives.
