Elections Are Not Won At The Court, Manhyia North MP Tells NPP

In what could be described as a shocking and sharp departure from the 2012 Election Petition filed on behalf of the NPP by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North in the Ashanti Region, Collins Owusu Amankwa has categorically stated that "elections are not won at the Court but rather at the voting centers."

He made these remarks on Asempa FM's afternoon flagship political show 'Ekosii Sen' which is also transmitted live in Kumasi via Sikka fm, on Tuesday May 5, 2015.

The MP, who sought to down play the Supreme Court order for a re-run of the polling station and constituency election at Manhyia North vehemently stated: "(Host) Kaba, the order for a re-run of election at Manhyia North is fraudulent and as such (there will be) no elections. I will not allow any elections be held in Manhyia North again."

He continued, "Those people who went to court should be told in the face that Elections are not won at the court."

The Supreme Court on 22nd January 2015 by a five- member panel comprised of Justice Sophia Akuffo (presiding), Justice Julius Ansah, Justice Gbadegbe, Justice Akoto-Bamfo, and Justice Benin unanimously dismissed an application for certiorari to set aside a Consent Judgment reached regarding Manhyia North and two other constituencies.

The Supreme Court affirmed the decision of the High Court to cancel the electoral albums of the NPP in Manhyia North and  two other constituencies immediately after the presidential primaries and ordered a re-run of all the internal elections in the three constituencies from the polling stations to the constituency officers’ levels.

However contrary to the Court position, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwa referred to the Court's decision as 'fraudulent' and vowed to prevent any re-run of elections at Manhyia North.
