Fulani Robbers Attack 3 Buses

Armed robbers on Sunday, attacked passengers on board a Metro Mass Transit and two Benz buses travelling from Tatale to Yendi and Tamale in the Northern Region. 

The robbers, suspected to be Fulanis, shot at the Metro bus’ windscreen and ordered all the passengers to get down and lie prostrate, and after robbing them, fled into the bush.

They collected mobile phones, cash and other belongings of the commuters. They also took away GH¢700 in the possession of the bus conductor. Passengers who had no phones or money on them, were beaten up.

The incident occurred near Bikokonlinbi on the Tatale- Zabzugu road at about 2:30 a.m.

Mr. Osuman Musah, a team leader of the Yendi Metro Mass Transit Inspection Unit, who briefed the media at Yendi after the incident, said the armed robbers attacked the bus, with registration mumber AS 9272 Z, driven by Mr Abdulai Saddiq.

He said the robbers later attacked and robbed passengers on the other two buses.

Mr. Nicholas Waake, Tatale- Sangule District Chief Executive, Chairman of the District Security Committee (DISEC), told the Ghana News Agency that it was the second time such an incident had happened at the spot.

He said although the DISEC, on the advice of the police, had asked drivers not to travel before 5 a.m., they ignored the advice

Mr. Waake said the Zabzugu District Police Command would intensify patrols on the road.

He said it was unfortunate that the Tatale Police Station had no police vehicle for operations
