I'm A Strong Politician...I've A Thick Skin And Will Face My Detractors Squarely - K Agyapong

Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a strongly worded note of caution to his detractors within the party seeking his political downfall to cease the attacks forthwith.

According to the NPP General Secretary, the attacks from some of his party executives are intended to undermine him and the national chairman of NPP, Paul Afoko, regardless of the party’s constitutional structures and rules which clearly mandates them on how to run party affairs.

Addressing the waiver letter he authored, Kwabena Agyapong said on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show that since he became the General Secretary of the NPP, his executives attack issues relating to him more than addressing issues raised by their main opponent, NDC.

He wondered why his own party executives will brand him a member of the ruling NDC and someone with agenda 2020; reminding that nobody is more NPP than him.

He insisted he has the institutional memory of the NPP since its inception and that he was part of the struggle to make NPP a strong party since in 1996 till the party won the 2000 elections for the first time.

He however revealed that he has been quiet about the happenings in the party since he took over as the General Secretary because of his intent to make the party move on to win power in 2016 but added he won’t quiet anymore if people in his party continue to spread lies about him.

Since I became the General Secretary of NPP, I have never seen these people respond to issues raised by our opposition, the NDC, but they rather launch personal attacks on me, calling me an NDC member and accusing me of planning Agenda 2020….and I have made up my mind that if people want to continue that way, we will find a way of facing them,” he warned.

I am a politician and a very firm and strong one....i have a thick skin; anybody who wants to go along the line by attempting to destroy my political future and my life, I am going to face them squarely. I am issuing a warning note to everybody, as G-S I have a constitutional mandate in this party. Without my signature, they can’t even file at the Electoral Commission……it is getting to a point if those detractors are not careful, we will expose them for every Ghanaian to know who they are; they are rather pressing the self-destruct button and not me”, he fumed.
