Man Arrested For Attempting To Defraud Police Commander

A 42-year-old man, Christian Afriyie Mireku, has been arrested by the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command for allegedly attempting to defraud the Regional Police Commander of five thousand cedis (GH¢5,000).

Mireku, a pupil teacher at the Yamfo Roman Catholic Primary School and a resident of Abesim, near Sunyani, was said to have placed series of phone calls to the Regional commander, Mr Maxwell Atingane, to offer him GH¢5,000 to have his name placed on the list of police officers being considered for promotion by the President.

A police source at Sunyani told the Daily Graphic that Mr Atingane became suspicious when the man who identified himself as Dr Clement Apaak, a Presidential staffer at the Flagstaff House, had pestered him with phone calls.

Mr Atingane then decided to feign interest in the deal and later commissioned some officers to begin investigations into the matter to bring the suspect to book.

On April 23, this year, Mireku was arrested at his residence at Abesim and subsequently put before court which remanded him in police custody. He would reappear on Monday, May 11.

The police have meanwhile appealed to anyone who has fallen victim to Mireku's fraudulent acts to report to its outfit.

The public have also been advised to beware of such miscreants.
