Ghanas Challenges Due to Lack of Sacrifice

The National Coordinator of Human Security, Brigadier General Dr Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, has attributed the myriad challenges facing the country to the absence of the spirit of sacrifice among Ghanaians.

He noted that voluntary sacrifice which was missing in the country had compelled most of the citizenry to overly rely on previous, current and even future governments to address all infrastructural problems confronting various communities.

According to him, if the wealthy in society could, out of sacrifice, mobilise funds to execute some development projects in the areas of education and health in particular, it would help reduce the undue pressure on the government.

Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah made the remarks when he spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of a modern kindergarten for the Gomoa Abora D/A Basic School in the Central Region.

The project was funded by Mr George Blankson, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for his home town towards improving education in the area.

Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah has also funded projects many basic and senior high schools as part of his sacrifice towards the development of the nation.

Notable among them are the Agona Nsaba Islamic Basic School, Gomoa Senior High Technical School, and Moree Senior High School.

He stated that the country needed individuals irrespective of their political affiliations who would mobilise resources to undertake projects in towns and villages that needed such facilities to propel the development of the country.

Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah explained further that the nation needed benevolent individuals and corporate bodies who would sacrifice some of their funds to partner the government towards the progress of the country.

He indicated that philanthropic individuals should always strive to help the nation develop as a form of giving back to their communities to help reduce the excessive demands on the government.

He called on the media to play their gatekeeping roles very efficiently and professionally and avoid being too partisan since such a situation would affect the development of the nation.

He charged them to use their medium to educate the citizenry on the need to come together to sacrifice towards addressing some of the problems facing the country.
