NDC Top Man Endorses NPP Candidate

Contrary to the normal practice where activists of a particular political party highly recommend their own members for political positions, especially, when it comes to parliamentary elections, a well known communicator of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kwahu South Constituency in the Eastern Region, Anthony Ansong, has endorsed an aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Mr. Evils Ofori Boateng.

To validate his endorsement for the NPP man, Mr. Anthony Ansong has started a house to house campaign, calling on the delegates of the NPP to elect Mr. Ofori Boateng as their parliamentary candidate for the 2016 elections at their upcoming primary.

Mr. Elvis Ofori Boateng has filed his nomination to contest the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Seth Kwame Acheampong, at the upcoming parliamentary primary of the opposition NPP.

According to the NDC communicator, who is also a government appointee at the Kwahu South District Assembly (KSDA), the 34 year old NPP parliamentary aspirant is the most credible and visionary leader the constituency has ever known, and therefore, his election to the high position of MP will go a long way to boost development in the constituency.

Mr. Anthony Ansong, who is a former Assembly Member for the Obomeng Electoral Area in the Kwahu South District, explained that the NPP man had demonstrated his sense of development and belongingness for his people in the past eight years as the Assembly Member for the Obo Electoral Area.

“My friend, this guy is the face of development for the constituency. If his party people would give him the chance to lead the constituency in the 2016 parliamentary elections, it is the constituency that will benefit, because he is better than any candidate the NDC will present for 2016,” he emphasised.

The former Obomeng Assembly Member made the shocking disclosure in a telephone interview with the paper, when this reporter called him to respond to speculations that he nearly exchanged blows with the Mpraeso NPP Constituency Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Ofori Atta.

When asked why an NDC man would campaign for a candidate from a different political party like the NPP, Mr. Ansong responded: “My friend, we don’t understand politics in Ghana. It does not matter whether the person is coming from my party or otherwise, but what matters most is the person’s ability to bring development.

“Hon. Boateng is a colleague Assembly Member who has shown that he is a man to be trusted, and better than any candidate my party would even present, so I don’t see why I should not campaign for him,” he added.

Touching on the matter that he nearly engaged in fisticuffs with the NPP Constituency Chairman, the outspoken NDC activist said he was in the office of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of KSDA, Joseph Omari, when the NPP Chairman entered.

He hinted that not long after his arrival, the NPP Chairman, who is alleged to be supporting the incumbent MP for the area, Kwame Acheampong, demanded to know why he (Ansong) was campaigning for Ofori Boateng.

He explained that he answered the NPP Chairman saying Ofori Boateng is a Ghanaian like him, who has shown that when given the chance he can bring accelerated development to the constituency.

The former Obomeng Assembly Member claimed that the NPP Chairman asked him to stop campaigning for Ofori Boateng, but he insisted that rain or shine he will campaign for the hard working NPP man, even when he has to contest against an NDC candidate.

The NPP Chairman, however, denied confronting the NDC communicator on why he is campaigning for Mr. Boateng when reached on phone, he, nonetheless, confirmed confronting him, because he was going about telling people that he (the Chairman) is a wicked person.

Meanwhile, residents of the constituency have called on the delegates to endorse Ofori Boateng in the upcoming parliamentary primary, since he has what it takes to alleviate the plight of the constituents when he gets the nod to become the MP for the area.

They explained that despite the number of developments undertaken by the sitting MP, it is time to have a new and young energetic person with fresh ideas to move the constituency forward, stressing that the living conditions of people in the constituency, under the current MP, is nothing to write home about.
