Black Stars captain and striker for Al Ain, Asamoah Gyan has expressed his deepest condolence to his former manager and inspirer, Sir Cecil Jones Attuaquayefio who passed away on Tuesday 12 May, 2015.

Gyan also known as ‘Baby Jet’ took to his twitter handle to pay his tribute to the mythical coach who first gave him the opportunity to play professional footballer.

“Sad day…. my great coach and inspirer… he handed me my first chance… Rest in Peace Sir Cecil Jones Attuaquayefio,” he twitted. 

Sir Cecil Jones Attuaquayefio for years now, he has been suffering from throat cancer.

During his coaching profession as Accra Hearts of Oak coach, he led the team to clinch the African Champions League in 2000.

He will be remembered for his braveness to have used the Hearts of Oak eleven to represent the Black Stars in a match against Nigeria which ended in a draw as head coach.

Cecil Jones Attuquayefio was named African coach of the year in 2000 after his club Accra Hearts of Oak of Ghana won the African Champions league with only one loss throughout the entire tournament (to DC Motema Pembe).
