Free Fertilizers Not Reaching Farmers

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, Herrod Cobbina, has urged government to ensure that the free fertilizers being offered to cocoa farmers get to farmers in his area.

He expressed worry about the poor manner in which the exercise was being handled, and called for better supervision to ensure that the fertilizers get to the intended target.

Speaking at a rally organized at Nsawora, a cocoa farming community in the Akontombra Constituency, he said that about 90% of cocoa farmers in his area were yet to lay hands on the free fertilizers being distributed as a form of motivation to farmers, adding that if care is not taken the exercise would not yield the desired result.

He urged the agricultural extension officers assigned to the area to pay particular attention to the people of Akontombra.

On education, Mr. Cobbinah disclosed that the government intends to provide the constituency with one community senior high school (SHS) on grounds of improving the standard of education in the constituency.

He said bidding for the project was ongoing, adding that it forms part of the 200 Community SHS being constructed across the country by the Mahama administration.

Mr. Cobbina also assured the people that the cocoa scholarship scheme being administered by COCOBOD to motivate cocoa farmers would be extended to the area.
