Red Cross Ventures Into Water Business

The Ghana Red Cross Society, has ventured into water production business as a means to generate funds for the society’s voluntary activities.

     Mr Kofi Addo, the General-Secretary of the Society, who briefed Ghana News Agency at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Society in Koforidua, said already production of both sachet and bottled water had started and it’s called “Aqua red”.

     He said the move is to have a sustainable and reliable source of funding for the Society’s activities other than the dependence on donor funding.

     Mr Addo said currently, the Ghana Red Cross Society has more than 65,000 volunteers who are called upon in times of disasters and any humanitarian support programme and appealed to the public to purchase the products.

     Mr Addo said the Society was started more than 156 years in Ghana but the 50th anniversary celebration is in commemoration of the introduction of the fundamental principles of the body, which include impartiality, selflessness and service to mankind.

     The Ghana Red Cross Society is on record to be the largest humanitarian and community based organisation that offers varied support and service to fellow humans in communities and societies especially in times of disasters and calamities.

     Mr Kofi Yirenkyi, the Regional Director of the Ghana Road Safety Commission, commended the Society for its consistent support and collaboration in road safety activities, which has led to the significant reduction of accidents.
