“When great men are about to die they become desperate and go round saying many things”. This is how an NPP parliamentary hopeful for Suame Constituency, Kwadwo Boateng Genfi, described incumbent Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The Minority Leader in Parliament is facing fierce competition from three aspirants. His opponents claim his impact as their representative in the legislature for about 20 years has been minimal.

In a Joy News interview, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had likened himself to Barcelona soccer genius, Lionel Messi, while placing his opponents in the class of local player, Don Bortey.

Boateng Genfi finds the comment reprehensible, saying it does not speak well of a respectable Minority Leader.

In an interview with Joy News, he challenged Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to show his achievements to delegates instead of seek media attention.

“It is quite unfortunate for a Minority Leader to try to demean our local products. Can you imagine Don-Bortey’s reaction when he hears this? A leader should not talk like that. I think he missed it. It is about time he keeps his mouth shut,” Boateng Genfi advised.

He also wants the Minority Leader to bow out honourably to avoid embarrassment in the upcoming primaries.

“It was for no reason Mandela stepped down to maintain his respect, dignity and influence. It is said that, you bow out when the ovation is loudest.  Twenty years is enough to bow out honourably instead of going into a fight with three other contestants,” he analysed. “I will beat Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonso convincingly and all that he acquired will go down the drain.”

Boateng Genfi claims he had a verbal agreement with the incumbent to step aside and allow him to represent the NPP in 2008 parliamentary election but it never materialized.

If given the nod, Boateng Genfi promises to construct health and sanitation facilities as well as create jobs for the people.
