We Dont Have The Power To Call Off Dumsor Vigil Police PRO Tells Ga Traditional Council

Representatives from the Ga Traditional Council have petitioned the Ghana Police Service to call off the #DumsorMustStop vigil which is scheduled to take place on 16th May, 2015.

They believe that the vigil would not conform with the ban on drumming and noisemaking, which is implemented every year in anticipation of the Homowo festival.

But the Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, ASP Efia Tenge, has told Peace FM that they don’t have the power to call off the impending strike.

We received a letter from the Ga traditional council to cancel the vigil, but we don’t have the power to cancel such an event. All we can do is to ensure that there is peace”, she said.

She further revealed that aside the celebrities planning to lead the peaceful match, representatives from the Ga Traditional Council failed to show up when the police invited both parties for a meeting yesterday.

The Ga leader however sent a prior notice to the police, but ASP Tenge explained that it would have been beneficial to both parties if they had all attended the meeting.

Only the celebrities showed up and they had problems with where they would all assemble but it was finally resolved”, she said.
