NDC Apologises To Togbe Afede XIV

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has apologised for naming Togbe Afede XIV as a member of its economic committee.

Speaking on Citi FM Tuesday, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia apologised to the traditional ruler, saying, although the party had considered making him a member of the committee, there was a slip in communication.

“Togbe is a very respectable business person in this country and we thought we could tap into his knowledge in the area of developing our policies around the economy…I want to believe that the consultations was not concluded and information was not properly delivered and so we apologise for the embarrassment caused him,” Mr Asiedu Nketia said.

The renowned businessman and traditional leader was Monday named as a member of the economic committee of the party.

The Committee, chaired by Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur is expected to strategize and oversee the financial activities of the party ahead of the 2016 elections.

However, few hours after the announcement, Togbe Afede rejected the appointment on the basis that it contravened the provisions of Article 27.6 Clause 1 of the 1992 Constitution.
