A former Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Papa Owusu Ankomah has charged the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be fair to all the aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries. 

The NPP is preparing to elect Parliamentary candidates to represent the party in the 2016 general elections. 

Vetting of all aspirants have been concluded but the process was characterized by petty squabbles in some constituencies.

Some supporters from Tema West of Carlos Ahenkorah massed up at the offices of the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Ishmael Ashitey demanding answers the  to protest the disqualification of their preferred aspirant.

A similar reaction greeted the disqualification of one Isaac Owuraku-Amofa of the Dome Kwabenya constituency.

The two failed candidates are insisting their disqualification was illegal and are appealing against the decision.

In an interview with Citi News, the Sekondi Member of Parliament (MP) wants these aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to resort to the laid down procedures in the party, to seek redress.

He stated that during such processes, persons who have the power to make decisions should be seen to be fair to every individual.

Owusu Ankomah also mentioned that any party member who will subject him or herself to the process “must have confidence in the party’s processes.”

According to him, these are necessary because “when a decision is taken, there is always the right to seek redress through an appeal process and everyone should subject themselves to that process. That is all!”
