A 78-year-old hearing-impaired man has allegedly committed suicide over the loss of his wife who died last year.
The incident occurred at Saboro, a suburb of Navrongo in the Kassena Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.
Abugeba Dejemma was found hanging on a mango tree in the vicinity of his house at about 10 a.m. last Monday.
According to family members of Dejema, he had never been himself since the death of his wife, and was often heard saying, "Why should my wife die and leave me alone on this earth? I will kill myself."
Police The Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Thomas Agbanyo, said Dejemma left the house unceremoniously for an unknown destination.
After failing to return home for some time, members of his household decided to organise a search party to look for him follwoing his earlier threats to kill himself.
The search party later found him hanging on the mango tree.
Mr Agbanyo said the body had since been deposited at the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital morgue.
He indicated that even though the police did not suspect any foul play, investigations were ongoing.
In a related development, a 52-year-old woman died at Gambibgo, a suburb of Bolgatanga, after taking a cup of tea.
According to Mr Agbanyo, at 4.30 p.m. last Tuesday, Madam Adama visited the family of Mr Shaibu Seidu at House Number C.41, Gambibgo where she was accommodated.
He said she was later found dead on a mat the same day after taking a cup of tea served her by Madam Akolko Maa Apaana, a resident in the house.
A sample of the tea and bread had been sent to a crime laboratory in Accra for analysis.
The body of the deceased had been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital morgue as investigations continued into the case.
