A New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth group in the Ayawaso Central constituency has cautioned the party against disqualifying one of the constituency’s parliamentary aspirants, Carl Kwaku Dey.
They claim that Dey’s disqualification could lead to the party’s defeat in the 2016 general elections.
According to them, Carl Kwaku Dey, a Management Consultant satisfies all the constitutional requirements to contest the primaries and should not be disqualified.
Speaking to Citi News, the spokesperson for the group, Kwame Bediako Asiamah said: “Carl Kwaku Dey is a member of this party.
“He was born and nurtured in this constituency and he is the best person for this constituency. If they disqualify him, they would be discriminating against some party members. We will not allow anybody to do damage to the party because we want a candidate who will retain this seat for us.”
He also mentioned that Dey had contributed immensely to the development and growth of the party in the constituency, adding that prior to the 2012 general elections, he provided resources to the party for its campaign.
“He is paying the fees of hundreds of school children in the constituency and he has even begun the construction of a police post in the constituency. Carl has installed street lights on some major streets here.
"He gave us money to campaign prior to the 2012 elections and even acquired a motorbike for the youth wing to facilitate our campaign.so it will be unfair if this hardworking member of our party is disqualified. We just hope that those rumuors are not true else the party risks losing the seat,” he emphasized.
