XCLUSIV FOTOS: Celebrities Show Up At #DumsorMustStop Vigil

After several insults, unnecessary politicization and countless challenges, the #DumsorMustStop vigil led by actress Yvonne Nelson with support from other Ghanaian celebrities, has been pulled off successfully.

Yvonne Nelson and her celebrity friends including Van Vicker, Efya, Prince David Osei, D-Black, DKB, Afia Schwarzenegger, Kweku Elliot, E.L, XO, Wanlov, David Oscar and others on Saturday May 16, 2015 led thousands of Ghanaians in a peaceful vigil to pressure government to find lasting solutions to the current electricity crisis in Ghana popularly known as ‘Dumsor’ (meaning Turn off, turn on in the local parlance).

The absence of Rapper Sarkodie and actress Lydia Forson who were very vocal in support of the #DumsorMustStop on social media campaign, did not really affect attendance or success of the vigil, as thousands of Ghanaians mostly dressed in black with red arm bands, with several light illuminating items torchlights, rechargeable lights, lanterns, bobo, candles  and chanting cheer songs, the thousands of protestors marched from the starting point at the Old Legon Gate amidst heavy police presence to their end point- Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout.

At the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout, Yvonne Nelson and the other stars addressed the huge crowd before the vigil was officially closed.

The vigil was relatively successful aside a poor and disorganized ending. Most of the people were confused with the ending point and when the crowd finally located where is converged at the finishing point there no properly constructed stage with loud speakers for Yvonne, her celebrity friends and organizers of the vigil to address the thousands of protestors and media (both local and foreign) present to be part of history and witness the protest.

A stage was improvised and a megaphone was used as microphone but most of the people couldn’t hear what they were saying and they couldn’t really see the faces of the leaders of the vigil.
